The Traumatic Nerve Technologies (TNT) Lab at Virginia Tech is focused on innovative research that assists in the prevention, identification, and treatment of nervous tissue injuries.
Specifically, our work focuses on neurotrauma due to blast overpressure exposure (primary blast injury) using established models, or Advanced Blast Simulators. We investigate various aspects of brain trauma from the sub-cellular to the tissue level.
Our research is veteran-centric: Blast-induced neurotrauma is one of the most frequently seen injuries in military personnel as well as civilians exposed to blasts. Working closely with the Department of Defense, Department of Veterans Affairs, and other affiliates, we hope to identify strategies and technologies that both address and improve nervous tissue injury treatments and outcomes.
